"Water Series 14", 2010, 35 x 49 in., monotype on paper
Ashforth's prints are large sweeping open and expansive. She is conscious about using the white space. She incorporates active gester of sweeping brush stroke in the upper half of the work and pooling elliptical lines in the lower half. The large works on paper have a minimal amount of color - less is more. Ashforth is a keen observer of the waters, the horizon the sky, she has fished around the world and the solitude of the open sea is her subject.
The large prints [ requiring 2 persons to pull the paper through the press ] are created at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk CT.
